This Veterans Day, Karen Uberti has reason to believe she’s going to hold on to her home. Even though she wasn’t always sure that she deserved the kind of help other vets get.

Uberti served stateside in the U.S. Navy in the 1980s. She didn’t dodge hostile fire in foreign lands. She received a service-related medical discharge when she developed Crohn’s disease and was rated as 10 percent disabled. As her condition worsened, she had to quit her teaching job in New Haven. The CVLC is proud to have been featured in this press release announcing grantmaking by The Community Foundation for Greater New Haven this year.  Thanks to The Community Foundation, the CVLC will receive $60,000 over two years to provide free legal services to homeless and mentally ill military veterans in Connecticut.
